January 28, 2025 – In a world of volatility and economic uncertainty, understanding consumers’ spending priorities under different levels of financial constraint becomes a key consideration of the food and beverage industry. This report reveals key aspects of spending priorities among consumers in China. We explore the key areas, namely income level and income expectations in China, food and beverage spending changes and the reasons, and core eating-related values among different income groups.
We then assessed the qualities worth paying for of different income groups. Further, with private labels on the rise, we examine key features of private label brands that appeal to consumers. At the end of the report, we summarize key consumer insights and present what’s next opportunities.
